Introduction
In this task you can see my final major project and a self-reflection on my own work. I will be presenting my Game environment by recording a game walk through and a camera fly through. I've decided to do a walk through and a camera fly through because I want to show how the overall environment looks and how it would look when the game is being played.
Game walk through
I created the walk though by importing a First person controller within the game and adding a character, you can see how I created this in my previous task. Once I finished recording, I edited the program using light works which is a free editing program. I added effects, audio and an image of a health bar which I then adjusted to fit in the top left corner to help visualise what the game interface may look like.
Camera preview
I animated the camera animation within unity, you can see how I did this in my previous task. I then recorded it using Smart pixel which is a free screen recorder and I then exported it and edited it using premier. I personally like how the camera fly’s through the environment because it is a lot faster than the walk-through video although I think the quality of the recording could be improved.
Self-reflection
I am going to self-reflect my own work, this means I am going to look at my final major project and evaluate if it has met the criteria and what my strengths and weakest part of the project is.Firstly, I am do believe that my final major project does meet the criteria for this unit and I am happy with my finished project. I think it’s important to identify your weaknesses when developing a project so you can understand what you can to improve. For example, when creating the trees in unity I found that the tree didn't have much detail and some of the leaves still appeared as a plane. Fixing this problem was really time-consuming and eventually ended up using some of the trees from the standard assets within unity although you can still see some of my personal trees within the terrain to help keep the forest interesting. In addition, another problem I had when creating unity is the textures on the models. As you can see in my walkthrough, there are a few textures which look a bit too big for the actual models. I am not too sure why this problem accrued because whilst UV unwrapping the texture within unity there wasn't any problems, the problem only accrued whilst in unity. I personally think that the problems I have had whilst creating my final major project has a major effect on the overall visual appearance of the environment and if I were to create this environment again I would improve the textures. The final waterfall in my game environment is okay but I do believe I could do better. I have previously created a waterfall for my unit 68 and the waterfall looked beautiful although when following the same technique for my FMP the waterfall just didn't give me the same justice, even though it doesn't look bad.
I enjoyed making the terrain for the environment and creating the actual 3d models, my favourite model to create within blender was the wheel of pain because I created it mostly from my own imagination and reference images from the film Conan the Barbarian. The environment looks exactly how I wanted it to look although In the future I would like to add more fantasy objects such as the floating objects which I originally wanted to include but unfortunately couldn't due to several issues. I would also add NPCS and more villages with a larger environment to explore. Within my feedback, I got told that the environment I have created is beautifully made and how the fog, sky box and the textures give the environment a fantasy effect. I used assets from the asset store such as the character I use and some bushes for the environment. The rest of the assets I have made myself.
Overall I am satisfied with my final environment and I do personally think the environment has reached the aim of the assignment. I am proud of my work and think I have managed the different obstacles which I have encounter when creating the project such as the situations I have explained above. Although If I was to improve my environment I would improve my texturing and add more elements within the game.
